With Indiana Jones 4 hype news stories breaking all over, were going to take a look at one of the movies it inspired. The Mummy and The Mummy returns directed by Steven Sommers were very much Indiana Jones style adventures, with similar characters, tempo and visual styles. With a likeable cast including Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, Omid Djalili and John Hannah, the Mummy was a rollercoaster theme park ride of a movie. Critical acclaim was low but the fun factor was high and the action and adventure never let up.

In 2008 The Mummy – Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, sequel to The Mummy 2 is due for release with a new director and the majority of the old cast returning. The only major cast member not returning is Rachel Weisz who played Eve, Mario Bello is the actress filling her shoes. The story this time revolves around Rick and his now grown up son Alex as they travel to China to investigate some ancient tombs.

New to the cast we have Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh playing a Chinese emperor, Qin Shi Huang and a dangerous sorceress respectively. At the helm Directing this time is Rob Cohen, who has directed more than a few big blockbuster movies, Sommers is back in a producing role.

It’s probably going to be big and flashy, lots of action and some cgi thrown around with abandon, and if the gap between this and the original 2 movies isn’t too long you may well be looking forward to this one.
