The Golden Globe award winners 2008

The 65th Golden Globe awards have announced their winners late last night, with some interesting choices across the board. With the Globes often giving a glimpse of what is to come for the future award ceremonies, you should get a good idea of what to expect at the Oscar’s and the Bafta’s.

Personally i think they made some good choices in most categories, which we will go into in a little more depth. I’m not going to talk about everything here, as i haven’t had a chance to see all the movies mentioned, ill hopefully get a chance later this month to check some of them out.

The first winner this year to catch my eye was Ratatouille winning the best animated movie, i have to say it was by far the best i saw out of the nominees and was just a good solid all round movie. With amazing animation, good acting, great visuals and some inspired slapstick comedy, i was glad to see Ratatouille walk away with this award.

Sweeney Todd did well picking up two awards, one for Johnny Depp in the title role as best actor in a comedy or musical, and one for the film itself in the same category. Atonement equalled the tally with two awards itself, for best motion picture drama and best music score. Both films were talked about a lot for different reasons with Sweeney Todd swinging it in my opinion for doing something a little bit different. The other two double winners this year were, No Country For Old Men and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, both matched the score but in less prestigious categories.

Julie Christie, Marion Cotillard and Cate Blanchett all won actress awards with the later being for an a bit part in the ensemble movie I’m Not There, a quirky biopic on the life of Bob Dylan which cast 6 actors to play the legend, in various stages of his life.

On the TV front, no surprise to see Ricky Gervais and the BBC winning the Globe for best comedy TV series with Extras, which is a funny show, just one of those shows that i never want to watch, yet when i do sit down i always enjoy it. I was glad to see David Duchovny win in the Best TV comedy actor for Californication, and i was also happy to see Brit actress Samantha Morton walk away with best supporting award for Longford.

Well its going to be interesting now to see how the other awards pan out. Last year the Globes were a definite glimpse into the future for the Oscars, wonder if it will be the same this year? The full list of winners from this years Golden Globes are listed below.
