Knocked Up – Review

Knocked up is a movie by Judd Apatow who you may know from TV shows like Freaks and Geeks or movies like The 40 year old virgin. In Knocked up we follow the life of Ben Stone an easy going stoner who lives with his buddies and survives from a payout cheque he got 10 years ago. Their day involves getting high and discussing ideas for their website rather than actually working on it. Today they all go out, and end up getting drunk. This is where Ben meets the other star of the movie Alison Scott, She however is the opposite, a budding TV presenter who lives with her sister and husband she’s a pretty girl with great career prospects. At the end of the night she and Ben hit it off and they end up going back to her place. Cue a drunken night without any protection and 8 weeks later she finds out she’s pregnant and yes it’s his.

The movie stars Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl in the title roles with great support from Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann who play Alison’s sister and brother in law. In fact the main cast is pretty good and the movie has a few nice little cameos that are pretty sharp and well done, they make you believe in the situation and world more.

I loved the 40 year old Virgin and this in my eyes is a more subtle movie, and for that reason I like it more, the only down point is the dragging 3rd quarter, but the movie picks right up again at the end. By far the best movie i’ve seen in the 2nd half of this year and definitely the one with the least special effects, and in this case that’s not a bad thing at all.
