With the Hollywood remake of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in the works, news has broke that Daniel Craig will be taking the role of journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the David Fincher directed movie. The original book that the film is based on is a worldwide hit and spawned two further books that along with the original have already been made into films in Sweden where the writer was from.

I’ve already seen the three movies with English subtitles and the first movie was great and I definitely recommend any thriller whodunit fans to take a look at it. The other central character in the movie is Lisbeth Salander a rebellious hacker that teams up with Blomkvist to solve a 40 year old disappearanceee case, but currently the role of Lisbeth has not been cast yet, but its hard to see anyone doing it better than Noomi Rapace who played the role in the Swedish film.

I’ve got mixed feeling about the Hollywood version of this film, I will definitely watch it, but one of the best features of the original Swedish adaptation was its running time which was just under 3 hours and really allowed the story to develop at a slow pace. With the Hollywood version I very much doubt that will happen but with Fincher on board i’m sure the tone will be sufficiently dark and his previous movies have always been longer than your average flick.

You can take a look at my review of the original Swedish movie, Men who Hate Women here.
