As you may have heard recently there are two movies due to be shot featuring one of the most famous fictional detectives ever. Sherlock Holmes is due back on the big screen with one movie due to be directed by RocknRolla’s Guy Ritchie and one to be produced by Judd Apatow.

An interesting thing about both movies is the inspired casting, today though were going to focus on Ritchie’s remaking of 221b Baker Streets most famous. The Hollywood News reported on the casting and in the title role of Sherlock Holmes is Robert Downey Jnr. who should be perfect for the role as he is naturally quite an eccentric character, who should have no trouble pinning down the role of Holmes. Watson, the faithful sidekick is reported to be played by Jude Law, who has taken more than his fair share of interesting roles but of late it’s rare for him to not be the leading man, again however I think this is good casting especially alongside an actor of Downey’s caliber.

In the supporting roles we have Mark Strong who will be recognizable to most British TV watchers and also had a large role in Ritchie’s Rocknrolla. Strong will play the role of the movies villain, Blackwood. The very pretty and talented Rachel McAdams will be playing Irene Adler, a character from one of Conan Doyle’s earlier Sherlock Holmes books and is all set to be the love interest for the detective. If you haven’t for some reason heard of McAdams yet then you should check her out in Redeye, which is a great thriller that gave her a headlining role.

With an interesting cast, a talented director and an adaptation from a more recent graphic novel, this could well be an interesting take on the world of Sherlock Holmes due to start shooting sometime in October.
