2012 is the latest disaster, end of the world movie from director Roland Emmerich, featuring as usual an ensemble cast, this time lead by John Cusack and Amanda Peet, and supported by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Woody Harrelson.  2012 is due to be released into the wild in November this year, and from the trailer it looks like it’s going to be a full on roller coaster of a movie.  In the trailer for 2012 we get to see mass destruction on a scale rarely seen so beautifully portrayed in films before and it throws in some great scenery and well known landmarks getting blown up, split in two and shook to pieces before being drowned in giant tidal waves.  I’m not lying when i say this trailer really does not hold back and even though destruction like this is a scary thing to see, because some of it is rooted in realism, Emmerich and his team have managed to make it look mighty pretty.

Normally movies like 2012 don’t appeal to me in the way they seem to for most people, id much rather watch a goofy comedy, but throw in one of my favorite actors John Cusack, the very pretty and talented Amanda Peet and Thandie Newton, the always watchable Woody Harrelson and the highly talented Chiwetel Ejiofor and i’m finding it hard to resist going to see this one at the theaters.

2012 is actually based on a doomsday prophecy and its already been covered in various forms many times before, the specific date is actually picked from the ending of a cycle from the Mayan calendar, which is much disputed and all the translations I’ve read so far seem so cryptic in that they could be interpreted in any way.   So while the foundation and idea for the movie may be far from watertight, it doesn’t really matter when the trailer looks this good.
