The Happening – M. Night Shyamalan Posted special

From what I can tell everyone is excited about M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie, The Happening. To be honest it’s hard not to be, love him or hate him, Shyamalan has made some interesting movies and a couple of not so interesting ones. Regardless he always sparks discussion and hopefully this one will be back on form. With a respectable cast, that includes Mark Whalberg, the super cute and talented Zooey Deschanel and John Leguizamo I’m hoping The Happening is going to be a return to earlier form, with some new stuff thrown in for good measure. The new poster gives nothing away except the idea of desolation on a road somewhere. I don’t mind it design wise, its just understated in the way its done, and not your typical poster fare.

Unbreakable was the first movie I saw by Shyamalan, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Unbreakable had a perfectly cast Bruce Willis in the title role with Samuel L Jackson playing the polar opposite. This movie turned out to be a slow burner and at the end I had the usual Shyamalan movie feeling. I thought I liked it, I was pretty sure I liked it, just not one hundred percent sold. The poster here is pretty standard fare and doesnt have the desolate and often figureless compositions that usually are produced for Shyamalan’s films

Signs was another movie that didn’t answer all the questions and Shamalyan was still getting the big stars on board with Mel Gibson taking the starring role. Joaquin Phoenix headed up the rest of the cast in a shocker of a movie, that in theatres was genuinely tense and nail biting at points. Interesting and subtle designs were used on the signs posters with some nice iconography involved, hints to the story with no actual spoilers.
