George Romero’s The Crazies is getting a remake.

The Crazies is a remake of the original 1973 George Romero movie where the story is centered on a contaminated water supply in America, and the film follows how the affected citizens, the government and military react to the situation.  I haven’t seen the original myself but from what I know of it, it explores similar themes that you often see in Romero’s zombie movies, mainly society and people and how it reacts to panic and self preservation situations.

The Crazies is due out later this year in September 2009 and is being directed by Brett Eisner who brought us the rather unsuccessful Sahara.  The cast of The Crazies is headed by Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell as the main stars of the unraveling mayhem.  Reading about this makes me wonder why I haven’t seen the original time to get a DVD rented I think.

Shocktillyoudrop.com is where I first read about The Crazies and it has an interesting interview with Danielle Panabaker from the cast of The Crazies over here.  Be sure to check it out.
